Hello my name is Freddy. I look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
Have you tried doing a clean book and then trying to update?
How long did you wait when it got to that steps?

Ok let's try that then.
Move your mouse to the top right corner of the screen.

Then click on search in the panel.
Type in msconfig.

Click on msconfig when it shows up.
If it asks for permission say yes.

Click on the service tab of the window that pops up.
Put a check in the box at the bottom that says hide all microsoft services.
Then click on disable all in the window.

Next click on the startup tab in the same window.
Click on the open task manager button.

In the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.

Close Task Manager.
On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.
After that try updating again.

If this did not work, please come back and let me know what happened when you tried it by clicking on reply to expert so we can continue.
If it did work, please don’t forget to leave a positive rating - it is greatly appreciated.
