hello, I have 2 homes in UK, I am about to sell one which currently is not nominated as main residence and buy another same time. Can I elect it to be my main residence now to avoid paying the extra stamp duty on the one I am buying? thanks

No, sorry, you will still be liable to the 3% Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), or rather its local equivalent.

thanks, ***** ***** it is possible to elect or change the main residence at any time, so on what base did you decide?

You can within 2 years of a change.

Customer: replied 9 days ago.
why did you write "no" before?

Because you will still be subject to the surcharge.

if I can change, why do I need to pay the surcharge

Because you already own a dwelling anywhere in the world.
