I have been having pain suddenly, for the last 3 or 4 weeks,
Hi. I have been having pain suddenly, for the last 3 or 4 weeks, in both lower legs (back of calves and shin bone areas) and both knees. Sometimes it feels like nerve pain, or like my legs have been twisted.I am 53 yr old female, not overweight, relatively active, and I have osteoarthritis in both knees. The pain started one evening with sudden extreme pain in lower inside (medial) side of my left knee, with pain also down the lower part of the leg as well, in the back calf and shin bone areas. It brought tears to my eyes.Since then, I now have similar pain occurring in the right leg as well (same areas, lower part of knee (medial) also back of calf and shin bone). The pains are now there all day every day - it eases off a bit during the day, so I can walk, but every evening while sitting, and particularly in bed, both legs 'stiffen' like 'seized' or cramp pain, it's extremely painful. -I have to keep moving my legs - stretching them out, then back again, to get some relief. Walking about helps. I sit with an ice pack every evening, but it doesn't seem to do much really. The pain is always moving about - one night the pain didn't come in my legs, but instead went to both knees - agonising pains all night long, could hardly' move them. Some nights the pain is only in my legs (always just the lower leg, calves and shin),other nights I go to bed with one knee worse than the leg pain.Every morning I wake up wondering what pain will I wake up with today! It is hard to get out of bed and walk in the mornings, I hobble around painfully, but it does ease off a bit during the day, so I can walk around.A couple of weeks ago, my left knee swelled a bit (there's never usually any swelling) and I had extreme pain; -again, just below the kneecap, medial side -when I touched the spot, it felt painful, like it was bruised. My doctor suspected maybe a torn meniscus. However, a few days later the pain went - it now just reoccurs randomly, just like the pains in the other knee and both lower legs. Also, sometimes I can feel my legs get very tired and weak after just a short walk to town (about 8 minute walk)I walk quite a lot despite my arthritis, but lately it has become difficult. I don't even know if I will be able to go back to my job - (it involves walking around outside for just an hour every day, with some stairs involved).I have had blood tests a year ago for possible RA (pains in fingers and toes and wrists) and the results were that RA Factor is present, and inflammation levels were raised. (I have no more info than that)I had an XRay last week, and another blood test also last week for RA, but haven't heard anything back yet. The doctor has given me Codipar tablets to help with the pain. At the moment the pain is much more bearable during the day, -though if I sit for too long, my legs start to 'seize' . - so I only take two Codipar tabs at night before bed, to help with pain during the night. - I now sleep with a pillow between my knees as well. Please have you any idea what may be happening to me?(Sorry I haven't got any results back yet, but it will be at least another 2 weeks before I will hear anything from my Doctor and I'm getting worried.) - Just some ideas of what it might be would be helpful to me - Thank you!

I have horizontal tear of the medial meniscus. With an associated parameniscal cyst.No displaced meniscal fragment, lateral meniscus is intact. No loose bodies, no knee joint effusion. No Baker's cyst. No trochlear dysplasia. No patellar subluxation. Mild chondropathy. no full-thickness cartilage loss. No skeletal lesion. Muscles and tendons good.became symptomatic 7 months ago. After months of physio with slowly reducing but unresolved symptoms went for mri then appointment with orthopaedic surgeon. A late patient caused appointment to be somewhat rushed but he seemed to recommend trimming torn meniscus. We are in initial stages of booking surgery - arthroscopy. My symptoms are mild - no locking up ect - have improved over time but knee still doesn't feel quite right but no real pain. Just can't exercise run/walk/ect as long or as far without a grind/sensation of tiredness in joint appearing. If I went beyond that point knee would go stiff the next few days. But if not going beyond then all ok.Question: with mild symptoms is it worth the surgical invasion and loss of meniscal tissue to tidy up a fairly benign tear. i.e: should we struggle to keep as much meniscus as possible for as long as possible, even if torn, to prevent chondropathy- or is it better to remove deteriorating/damaged meniscus to separate it from non damaged tissue. This subject to the fact that the tear is having only a mild impact to quality of life.thankyou.

Hi, I wasn't sure whether to select the orthopaedic or neurologist expert?I have lower back pain when I try to bend forward. The pain is central to slight left. The same area also stiffens up and hurts when I get up from a sitting position. Subsequent walking loosens the joint up and the pain goes away. When I am standing or walking (unless for long periods) I am fine.I have been referred to a physio by my GP, but as it's via the NHS, they just give me exercises to do and see me only once a month. I have asked to be referred to a specialist or consultant, but so far they have refused to do so, I guess due to NHS cost cutting.I saw an Osteopath privately to get another opinion, and she recommended me having an MRI scan as the pain sounded disc related and she didn't want to make it worse without knowing. I will add an attachment to show the results:

I have had pain in my lower back, just above my buttocks for
I have had pain in my lower back, just above my buttocks for about 6 years, but it seems to be lasting longer and getting worse. 3 years ago there were some bony Spurs seen in my lower spine on an xray. I have stiffness in the morning when I wake up and have to change positions several times in the night due to pain and stiffness. Sometimes the pain eases for a few hours, but then starts again if I lift something or move awkwardly. I also get the pain if I sit down too long. I am confused as to which condition I may have as arthritis or spondylitis. As the descriptions I have read contradict each other. What tests might be useful. I am only 37 and female. Thanks
