Hi,sorry I was so slow getting back to you.the strange thing is that I've just had new tyres all round & the whirring humming noise has gone.
What do you make of that?

if the tyres have been wearing oddly due to under inflation or tracking out of alignment

you can get the edges of the tread blocks only wearing on the leading edge

this then produce a vibraiton and noise that you describe

so I'd keep an eye on the wear at the tyre edges and consider having the steering alignment checked
