What type of cable are you trying to connect the 2 units together with?
What have you already tried?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

an optical cable that was supplied with the soundbar. the sound bar turns on and off automatically when i do the tv, so it must know its connected, i just cant get any sound

ok, great.
Have you gone into the TV menu and turned OFF the TV speakers?
This lets the internal amplifier switch the audio to the optical port.
Let me know.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

how do i do that?

Expert:  bluextc89 replied 3 years ago.
Browsing through the manual - it looks like it's under the AUDIO menu.
then select SPDIF, and make sure it is set to AUTO.
Also - you have to let the sound bar know what input to look for a signal on.
Use the remote and press OPTICAL - maybe try this first if you have not done it yet.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

yeah just done both those things, still nothing

Expert:  bluextc89 replied 3 years ago.
ok - something simple... have you removed the protective cover from the optical cable? or has it been previously used? Often times a clear plastic cap is put on the tip of the cable during packaging.
like in this picture...
Let me review some more things from the manual, and I'll get right back with you.

I cannot find any compatibility issues with the 2 units.
Other than resetting the TV to factory defaults, and then unplugging the soundbar from the wall outlet and re-plugging it in, I can't think of a reason it should not work when selecting the proper optical input on the soundbar.
Perhaps changing to the HDMI cable or swapping the optical cable for another one can let you know if the soundbar or optical cable is defective.
I'll open this up to other experts for a fresh eye. Perhaps I am missing something obvious.
Sit tight - if someone has anything to add - you will be notified.

not that i can see. it came with big plastic capos that were obvious to remove, would there be other ones?

My name is ***** ***** I will try and help with your question.
I would suggest that you change the spdif output to pcm rather than auto
Here is a guide
Let me know if this works you would also need to select optical on the soundbar
