I have a TX-P42G20B TV but I can't get it to play HD videos.

I have a TX-P42G20B TV but I can't get it to play HD videos. The videos have been taken on a Nokia Lumia 1020 camera, and I have tried converting them to DivX and to MPEG-2, again without success. My earlier videos (not HD) play OK. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The software on my TV is up to date (version 2.714)

Hi there,
The TX-P42G20B plays full HD 1080p videos.
Check if your are 1080p or 1080i.
If they are 1080i they will need to be converted.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

My videos are already 1080p

Ok, then in theory they should play without any problem.
How are you transferring them from the phone to the TV?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

I transfer by copying from PC to a USB stick.

What do you see on the TV screen when you try to play the files?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

I have other videos on the stick, which are not HD and which appear normally in their respective squares. The HD ones do not register at all.

What file format are the hd videos?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

The HD videos have been converted to DivX by a programme downloaded called "DivX Converter" and have the suffix .mkv.

The older non-HD ones which do work have the suffix .divx. This morning, I tried changing the suffix of one of the HD videos to .divx, and its title now appears on the TV, but when clicked it says "format not supported".

Ok, you will need to use a converter to convert MKV to DIVX.

Many thanks. Your answer pushed me in the right direction, and I have now worked out how to do it with only one format conversion rather than two.
