My 5 year old daughter has WBC 878, RBC 77 Epithlial cells 5 in her urine but no growth what could cause this ?

Why was the test done ?

Does she have any urinary symptoms ?

Any abdominal pain?

Any ultrasound scan done?

History of urinary infections?

Please let me know.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
She was born with grade 2 kidney reflux which she has now out grown but whenever she is ill they always check her urine just incase,
She has had recurrent infections since March 2014 when she had glandular fever
2 bacterial infections of unknown origin
4 strep throat infections 1 of these with strep skin infection
Whooping cough
Several upper respiratory infections
And various viruses
She had a kidney scan in October which was normal as was her urine specimen
However every specimen since December has shown WBC and RBC
She shows no signs of a urine infection and the tests show no growth
She has constant abdo pain but this is due to all the lymph nodes in her body being swollen because of EBV and constant infections

Have you done a DMSA scan to see for any scars in the affected kidney?

Have a done a recent VCUG - voiding cysto Urethrogram ?

Please let me know.

Hi they haven't done either of these tests !
The blood test they did in November showed elevated phosphate 6.9 ( 2.5 - 6.5) and urea 1.83 (0.90 - 1.80)

Sometimes Kidneys with reflux can form scarred portions which are sites of infection. Even though the reflux may have resolved, these scared portions can release RBCS and WBCs in urine.
DMSA scan will look for scars in the kidney.
VCUG is done to confirm that the reflux has indeed resolved once and for all.

Only then we can complete the work up for this condition.

Thank you.
