Hi there,
Today when I was taking a shower and I was washing my pennis, I notice a little bump/lump underneath my left side of foreskin. About one month ago I tested for any std and everything came back negative. On Saturday which was two days ago I took a shower and I did not notice this small bump or should I say it was not there. In scare now! It does not hurt and it is not hard its just a little swollen from what I can see. I can not even notice unless I pull back my forskin of my penis. What could it be... I have attach a picture. Thanks

Hello. I'm Dr Chip
Thanks for your question and I'm reviewing it.
I'll be back in a moment with and answer or a request for more information

Is that either sore or itchy?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Its just a little swollen/red and not itchy
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Im just scare and stress out. Like I mention before on Saturday when I took a shower it was not there.

Nothing too serious there

It's a patch of balanitis--a fungal skin infection and not any kind of STD. No specific trigger for it

You can use over the counter clotrimazole cream twice a day for a week to clear it up

That should work but, if not, you'll need prescription ketoconazole cream from your doctor

Please let me know if you need any more information

Would balanitis look like swollen pimple? Because that's how it looks as if it was some type of form of pimple or cyst.. And also, if I take showers everyday how could I have gotten this??

Yes--that's the typical appearance of balanitis and it's not a pimple or a cyst

But getting it has nothing to do with hygiene--it just happens like athlete's foot

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is this contagious? And also is washing down there with only water okay?

No it's not contagious

And you can wash with water and a mild soap

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is there a way to avoid getting this again and should I be tested for std again?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How long does this take to get rid off? And should I also experience any itching?

No need to be tested for STD's

It can itch

A week's worth of the clotrimazole should get rid of it

To keep from getting it again you can wash your groins and genitals with Hibiclens wash three times a week

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Were can i get that? Or is that through prescription only?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How many times do i need to apply the clotrimazole?

It's over the counter at any Walgreens or CVS. You apply it twice a day for a week

Can i used nystatin ointment??

That would work just as well as the clotrimazole

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Do i need to take any oral antibiotics?

No and antibiotics wouldn't work on a fungal infection

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Should i make an appointment with my doctor? For further evaluation?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Im all stress out here..
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I just read. One can have balanitis, due to herpes as well??

Sorry for the delay

No, balanitis is not a sign of herpes and this is definitely not herpes

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i can be assure this is not an std related issue/problem? can you get balanitis from sexual relationship?

It's not STD related--even guys that don't have sex can get it

Please don't forget the rating

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
is this like some type of fungus?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
can being prediabetic contribute to this issue?

Yes--it's basically the same as athlete's foot

And prediabetes wouldn't contribute to it

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Should one stop having sex, while having this issue?

It will help with the healing but it isn't absolutely necessary

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is there anything else you can apply to it to speed up the healing. Like something natural treatment? Or it is not advise?

You can also use vitamin E cream twice a day

I've spent a lot of time with you on this and I'll be glad to continue but for now please rate my service to you

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Sorry about that. One quick question before rating you. I just read apple cider vinegar deluted in water helps, is that something you recommend?

That can help, too

Dr. Chip would having kidney stones trigger balanitis?

No--and in general there is no specific trigger

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is it necessary for me to make an appointment with an urologist, for further evaluation. Or simple will the recommendations you gave me be enough to clear this issue?? Thanks

What I suggested should suffice

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i should start today by putting nystatin. Twice a day and also should I wash everyone before applying the ointment?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Would having relationships with a female who might have a yeast infection can cause balanitis in males?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Dr chip, this is my final question. I started reading about penile cancer. How common is penile cancer in men and would symptoms show from one day to another??
And would balanitis be a sign of this? As you can see in still a little stress out about my situation.

It's fairly rare but I assure you this isn't cancer

And balanitis isn't a sign of cancer

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
penile cancer does not show up one day to another?

No it doesn't

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thank you doctor. I started doing your recommendation.

Let me know how it goes

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Dr. Chip i just took a shower and wanted to send you a better picture of the issue. I know the ones from yesteraday were not that great. Do you still think it balanitis? Thanks
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is just all this issue is stressing me out. Hope you can understand. Thanks

Got it and I understand

Simply balanitis and nothing else

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thanks doctor. So, just continue with the recommendations?

Yes--just keep doing that

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Hi Dr. Chip. I wanted to ask, I've been doing so far everything you recommend. But I have notice, Im having a small itch now in that area.

That's common and nothing to worry about

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
just for the record, this issue im having is not std related or penile cancer related. Because, im so stress already, that any new little symptom has be all scare. And all I google seems to lead to really bad scenarios.. Hope you can understand. Thanks.

I do understand and stay away from Dr Google--he tends to scare the Dickens out of people

Not an STD and not cancer

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thank you

You're welcome

Dr. Chip i was examining my penis and were I have the issue, I feel as is there is a little bump or should I say I feel a small bump, something like a pimple form. Is that normal of balanitis?
