Welcome to Just answer, There are 2 possibilities the first is that the clutch is what we call "dragging" this is when the clutch disc sticks on the splines of the gearbox input shaft and would usually need a clutch overhaul and high melting point grease lubing the input shaft.

The second and more common is that the gear selector cables are worn and the inner cable is sticking.

I would advise that the cables are replaced first as this is by far the cheapest option.
