i have been looking after my cranddaughters three month old springer spaniel and he has eaten about two snails/slugs i am aware of lung worm he has had all his injections and seems to be ok what do you think

Hello Sandra, I'm Dr. Deb and I'll do my best to help you today.

I can understand why you might be concerned about Dexter's ingestion of snails or slugs since there's so many things that can be harmful to our pets but this isn't one of them, I'm glad to say.
Even if slug/snail bait had been used and these particular ones ingested the bait, eating two of them is not likely to cause any harm.

Snails and slugs are actually a very good source of protein although I suspect this isn't why he's eating them:)


Yes, snails can harbor lung worms but not all of the do. I wouldn't treat him prophylactially "just in case" unless he's had a problem in the past. I'd wait for signs to develop, if they do.
