Hello, my name is Dr. Kara. I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian and I'd like to help with your concerns about your bitch's colitis.

Colitis is an inflammation of the colon or large intestine. It can be due to stress, a change in diet, being fed too much table food or rich treats, parasites, inflammatory bowel disease or even a food allergy. Rarely a mass in the colon can be the cause.

Sometimes we never find the inciting cause for an episode of colitis, but if you have been feeding her lots of treats or table food or a new food I would avoid feeding those again and stick with very few or no treats.

I would also recommend her veterinarian checking a stool sample for gastrointestinal parasites.

Best of luck with your girl, please let me know if you have any further questions.
