Customer Question

We have a male leopard gecko, about 6 months old. We have had him since Christmas but I have noticed recently that despite eating (crickets) he is very, very thin.

I am sorry Elvis is unwell. It is important that he is maintaining s body condition so any weight loss should be taken seriously. There are many causes including metabolic disease ( often from inadequate calcium supplementation or absent or tired UV bulbs). The other common cause is parasites.

So it is vital Elvis is examined by a vet and is dosed with a wormer such as Panacur. Your vet will also be able to determine if his environment is suitable and if calcium deficiency is suspected then it can be supplemented through powder or injections.

I would avoid adding excess crickets as this can cause stress to Elvis and they may actually damage him.

Good luck and I hope he is OK
