Scott, many thanks for your help with the snake query. It is 99.9% a grass snake from the photo you sent, but in 10 years in cavendish I have never seen one - I was more concerned that it has come back with my luggage from HongKong.

It pretty well had to be a grass snake from your description. I spent many years in practice in Essex and saw quite a few of them there, but they are quite secretive.

I am now based in Mindanao Philippines and see quite a lot of snakes in the surroundings but none quite match to the grass snake appearance.
