Ihave a golden retriever 14 years old.Last few days he has been off his food weak and dribbling and today cannot stand very well.He topples over because of weakness in his right hind leg.Does that suggest a stroke and what can I do

Good Morning and welcome! I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.

I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Sasha's condition. Since this has come on so suddenly, it certainly could be caused by a stroke. This causes an interference with the nerve supply to certian areas due to a clot blocking this. It is very important that you have Sasha seen by your vet quickly since often , when treated, function can be restored or at least some of the function. This also could be due to an unstable disc in his back that also blocks the nerve supply and both are very serious and will require immediate attention.

Does that make sense to you?

Please let me know if you have ANY other questions. My goal is to give you 100% satisfaction and if you are not yet satisfied, please REPLY so I can clarify for you.

Sincerely, XXXXX XXXXX
