my old cat seems to be filling up with fluid think this could be kidney failure he is still eating using cat tray but is drinking more if I take him to vets is there any medication to prolong his life

I suspect that you're seeing Tom's abdomen bloat. Please clarify if this is what you mean by "filling up with fluid". If so, right-sided heart failure should be considered in a 19 year old. Both liver and kidney failure as well as inflammation in the abdomen due to cancer or infection will also cause fluid to collect in the abdomen. This is always a serious sign. Heart failure would be treated with diuretics but I would hospice such a patient should any other etiology of his bloating exist.
