Veterinary questions? Ask a Vet for Answers ASAP
Hi there, you are through to Dr Linda.
To confirm, Rufio is bleeding from the mouth?
Would it be more than a teaspoon of blood?
Would he let you look inside the mouth?
Please ignore any phone call request as the website sends these automatically.
So there is blood in the mouth? Would you be able to send a clear photo?
This link explains how to send a photo, as this would really help me get a better idea of what exactly is going on. If unable to, don't worry and I can still try to help.
When you say the blood is where he doesn't have teeth, is it where he used to have teeth or somewhere else such as his gums or the inside of his cheeks?
Is it possible he has a growth/mass or perhaps an ulcer?
So not associated with a tooth?
And on the outside of the mouth?
Ok thank you.
Does there seem to be a scab, wound, growth or abscess?
Is there any ooze or bad smell?
Unfortunately from your description and without a photo it is very difficult for me to know what is going on.
Skin beside the mouth that is bleeding could mean an infection, ulcer, tumour or something else.
It is reassuring he is eating.
If he is rubbing his head or pawing at the area, we should protect it by using a buster collar.
We could also clean away any dried blood with some cotton wool and salt water.
It would be best to have him see by a vet who can determine what is going on, if we need to run any tests (such as a fine needle aspirate) and if Rudio needs any medicine such as antibiotics or pain relief.
I do hope this helps.
Not at all and take care!
