My rat jammed her toe and now it’s bleeding and looks

Customer Question

My rat jammed her toe and now it’s bleeding and looks swollen I don’t know if she needs to go to the vet or not
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How badly is the rat bleeding? When did this start?
Customer: About 5 minutes ago it’s not excessive but it looks about Halfway through her toe
JA: And what's the rat's name and age?
Customer: Burr she’s only about 10 weeks she doesn’t seem to be too distressed
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know?
Customer: It looks like her nail may have nearly ripped out from the nail bed

Hello, I’m a bit worried about her

Is it actively bleeding right now? Can you see drops of blood forming and dripping down?

I agree it looks quite swollen, but given the fact that it was a recent event/injury, I am not that concerned.

Do you have any antiseptic wash (like hibiscrub) at home?

Customer: replied 21 days ago.
do you think she will be okay without going to the vets?
Expert:  Teodora B replied 21 days ago.

I think it should be kept clean and monitored for now. If you don't have any antiseptic solution at home, it's worth having her checked by a vet, as a hands-on examination, to determine if she needs antibiotics as well.

Thank you

Rats do really well with this kind of wounds (if nothing more sinister is happening underneath). But they need to be washed twice a day (my favourite soap is chlorhexidine based (Hibiscrub).
