My dog ate some sweets while we were out and is now drinking

Customer Question

My dog ate some sweets while we were out and is now drinking a lot of water and vomiting.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What size is the dog? How much was eaten?
Customer: He's around 26kg and it was around 100g of jellies and fizzy sweets.
JA: The Expert will know if the dog will be okay to digest the jelly. What's the dog's name and age?
Customer: Monty and he's 5
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know?
Customer: He has no health issues.

Hello, you are through to Dr Linda, a UK based vet.

Could you please send the ingredients of the sweets?

Did they contain Xylitol (a sweetener)?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
I don't believe so, it was standard pick n mix and looks like glycerol and dextrose. The vomitimg seems to have stopped now.

Ok, great.

These ingredients are not toxic but can lead to a stomach upset.

Monitor Monty closely for any further signs (such as lethagry, reduced appetite or continued vomiting).

I would feed a bland diet of chicken and rice for 24 hours and limit exercise.

He should improve quickly.

Not at all.

Fingers crossed the vomiting has ceased!
