Customer Question

Our 7month old was spade 3 weeks ago
JA: What type of animal are we talking about?
Customer: kitten
JA: I'll do all I can to help. Can you tell me a little more about the kitten's situation? How long has this been a concern?
Customer: since friday morning she has been vomitting she cant keep any food down or water she is now vomitting orange liquid guessing its bile shes not herself
JA: I'm so sorry the kitten isn't feeling well, but those details will be very helpful for the Expert. Could she have eaten anything unusual?
Customer: I thought that but she managed to fit into a little gap behind a drawer I then tried to close the drawer not understanding why it wasnt closing and I tried to close it harder and realised she was there and quickly got her out Im worried I've hurt her tummy
JA: What's the kitten's name?
Customer: Bella

Hi there, this is Dr Linda, a UK based vet.

I'm sorry to hear Bella is so unwell and understand your concern.

I am personally unable to make calls but can continue talking via typing if that is ok.

As her surgery was 3 weeks ago, it is unlikely this is related.

If her symptoms only started after the drawer incident, it is possible they are related as she may have some internal damage.

We would also consider e.g. a gut obstruction, recent toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, viral infection etc.

As it has been over 48 hours, a vet visit is really needed, especially as she is still so young.

We would worry about dehydration and low blood sugar.

The vet will examine Bella and may run some tests such as a blood test and abdominal scan. Treatment will depend on what is going on and may include e.g. an anti nausea injection, assisted feeding and fluids.

It’s not open till the morning will she be ok lasting another night without food and water
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 17 days ago.

This depends on how stable little Bells is.

If she seems unwell i.e. dry or pale gums, fast breathing, lethargy etc. then I would bring her to an our of hours clinic tonight.

If you need the details for your nearest open vet clinic you are welcome to send me your postcode.
