Veterinary questions? Ask a Vet for Answers ASAP
Hello, this is Dr Linda, a UK based vet.
I'm sorry to hear Humf has these signs.
Is he aware he is passing the poo or does it just fall out without him realising?
Does he have diarrhoea or solid stool?
Any stiff joints or slowing down?
Does he ever drag his paws on the floor (so the top side of the paw touches the ground)?
Do his hips seem more sunken in than they used to be?

He has what is called 'faecal incontinence'.
This means he has no control over the faeces leaking.
There are several possible causes for this in a senior dog including:
It is important that Humf is examined by a vet. They will check him all over and will assess both his neurological function and joints.
Treatment is dependent on what is going on and may include e.g. anti-inflammatories, antibiotics or a surgical procedure.
This is very unlikely.
As the tumour has been there for 3 years, the chances of it being malignant (a cancerous tumour that spreads around the body) are very low indeed.
I do hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions.
