Customer Question

My dog's third eye lid shows and her eyes roll back when she blinks but then return to normal aftewardd, should I be worried?
JA: I'll do all I can to help. When did you notice the dog had this issue with her eyes? Does she have any allergies?
Customer: I noticed it a few weeks ago but didn't think anything of it but after a google just now realised there could be something else going on. No allergies I'm aware of at least
JA: And what's the dog's name and age?
Customer: Daisy and she's 7
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know about Daisy?
Customer: No she is in good health other than that

Hello, this is Dr Linda, a UK based vet.

Thank you for your question.

What breed is Daisy?

Could you please send a clear photo of her eyes?

Any other signs such as eye discharge, eye rubbing or squinting?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Daisy is a Stafforshire Bull Terrier and she doesn't have or display those things you said

Great thank you.

Would a photo of her eyes be possible so I can assess her 3rd eyelids?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
I'm not sure how to send a picture here
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

You can also email me at***@******.***

Have you noticed any other signs at all; perhaps a slight facial droop, loss of muscle mass or head shaking?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
No she seems fine other than her eyes rolling
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

Ok, sure.

Hopefully you can send those photos so I can provide the best advice possible.

I have sent photos. I can try to take a video of her blinking too if that helps?
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

Absolutely, the more information the better.

I tried to email but it saying email adress not found? Do tou have another?
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.
is my only email and should be working; I've received several photos and videos this evening.
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

Ah, I see there was a typo in my original address; sorry about this.

Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

Thank you for these photos.

In the photos you have sent, the third eyelid is not visible.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Yeah it isn't until she blinks and I can't send the video has too big of a file size to email
Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 12 days ago.

Ok, sure.

As her eyes look normal in the photo, it is difficult to offer a specific answer.

It may be that her 3rd eyelid is slightly inflamed or that there is a neurological issue.

As this is new in the last few weeks, a vet visit is sensible.

They will examine Daisy's eyes throughly and assess her vision and reflexes. They should look into the back of her eyes with an ophthalmoscope and may measure the intra-ocular pressure to ensure it is not too high.

Her signs may not be a sign of anything worrying but it is sensible to ensure all is well.
