Veterinary questions? Ask a Vet for Answers ASAP
Hello, you are through to Dr Linda, a UK based vet.
I'm sorry to hear this and appreciate your concern for Charlie.
Is she holding her leg off the ground?
Is she offer her food, vomiting or drinking more?
Thank you, ***** ***** she ever been prescribed any medicine for this?
Ok, thank you.
I am typing my reply now.
For Charlie to receive the correct and safest medicine, he does need to see a vet in person.
This is so we can weigh him and check his joints.
It is also important that we check his liver and kidney function with a blood test given his age and the fact that he is eating less could be a sign of a medical condition at his age.
Also, he will need prescription medicine such as pain relief (like Tramadol, Gabapentin or Amantadine) and anti inflammatories (like Meloxicam).
At home, try to keep him slim and continue his joint supplements. He should have a padded, orthopaedic bed and should receive a small amount of consistent exercise each day.
I do hope this has helped and please let me know if there is anything else,
Take care,
Linda.
