Hello, you are through to Dr Linda, a UK based vet with 10 years of clinical experience.

I'm sorry to hear this and understand your concern for Merlin.

When did this all start?

How many times is he breathing in one minute?

Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 15 days ago.

Hi there, could you see my reply?

How is Merlin?

Expert:  Linda Simmon replied 15 days ago.
Without further information it is very difficult for me to provide the best advice but I shall certainly try.

Please reply when you can and we can continue the conversation.

Merlins's signs of shallow breathing and crying are very concerning and we'd worry about e.g. asthma, a blocked bladder, a recent trauma, heart disease, an infection etc.

He needs to see a vet urgently, particularly if he is distressed or had a breathing rate higher than 30 breaths a minute.

They'll examine him and may run some tests such as a chest xray.

His treatment will depend on what is going on and may include e.g oxygen and medicine to open the airways as well as pain relief.

Hopefully he's feeling better very soon.
