Hi Bob,

My name isXXXXX will assist you with your Nikon Coolpix P520.
Be sure that the sd cards are not locked, they have a tab on the edge of the card that you can slide and lock the card from being erased or written over. There will be an arrow pointing in the lock direction. If the sd cards are okay, then you might need to reset the camera to factory defaults and begin set up again as it was when new, first out of the box. To do this> go to the camera set up menu, then choose reset all option. After the reset is finished, remove the batteries and disconnect all cables, power cord, then hold the power(on-off )button for 20 seconds, then replace batteries and or power cord. Then you will be able to do the initial set up again. Please let me know if you need more help with this issue.

Hello Randy.
Cards are not locked. Attempted as you suggested, no change.

I can use one card without a problem (film pro SDHC) have tried scandisc SDHC and Toshiba sdhc (both recommended by Nikon) but the camera will not operate at all when these cards are inserted. I thought I had caused the problem with my initial action of not formatting the first card, it would appear that is not the case.

could you suggest anything else please.

hello again Randy.

Just checking the cards, the one card that works is a class 6, the other four are class 4. could this be causing the problem ( I cant even switch the camera on when the class 4 cards are inserted).

Expert:  *ElectronicsTech replied 4 years ago.
Yes, that could be the problem. The class 6 are the only ones that will work. Class 4 is not compatible.

Hello Randy, sorry to leave you in limbo. I have been unable to find a class 6 card locally, so am waiting for one on mail order. I did manage to find a class 10, this again did not work. I will get back to you as soon as my new SD card arrives (these are the problems with living in a rural area).

Cheers Bob
