Hello my name is***** look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I want to warn you that it is possible you will need to replace a part in order to fix this. There are a few different things that can cause this and a couple different parts so we would need to troubleshoot to find out for sure. Look at the lens straight on, does it look centered?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Lens appears centred

That could mean you need a new part then, just in case lets check anyway.
While holding the power button gently push the lens to the side.

Test this with each of the 4 sides, if it is off center to one side doing this should get it to retract while holding the power button.
If you hear a click while doing it do not worry that is normal.

If this did not work please come back and let me know by clicking on reply to expert so we can continue.
If it did work please don’t forget to leave a positive rating it is greatly appreciated.

With power button on the camera shows no sign of firing up. Pushing the lens seems to have no effect

Do you have a switch or a button? If you have a button you need to hold it, and push the lens while the camera is turning on. If it does nothing at all can you hear it trying to retract?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Lens retracted but screen still blank. Message 'no charge in battery'. Is this an indication of the need for a new battery?

It is possible please remove and reinsert the battery and test it again. See if the lens extends. The original error refers to the zoom unit which is what retracts and extends the lens. A dead battery could cause this. If you have another battery you can test with that as well.
