I have a Hard Disk Camcorder, model number GZ-MG20E/EK, the battery is charged but with lens cap off and switch to video or photo mode there is no view on the monitor so I cannot see anything on the monitor to know what I am taking a picture of. I have been through the instruction book but I cannot find any reference to this problem, please can you help? For reference my email address is:- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hello, my name is***** be happy to assist you.
Please allow me to ask you a few questions to diagnose the problem.
- Do you get normal picture on camcorder if playback previously recorded video files?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Yes, previous pictures and video images are visible but I have downloaded them onto the SD card. If I put the switch onto photos and press the button, I can hear it take a shot but I can't see anything, the same when using the video setting, I can hear it running but no picture appears. In my instruction booklet it reads: when the LCD monitor's fluorescent light reaches the end of its service life, images on the LCD monitor become dark'. Could this have anything to do with my problem?

Thanks Michael for the info.
While no 'live-view' image in camera mode appears on screen, press menu button on camcorder, do you get menu options screen?
"when the LCD monitor's fluorescent light reaches the end of its service life, images on the LCD monitor become dark" rule may not apply here as you get picture and videos on same screen in playback mode.

Dear Shahid,

Yes I do get menu options screen.

Thanks Michael for the info,
This kind of problem occurs due to either jammed/stuck aperture in camera lens mechanism or ccd chip failure. CCD chip is an electronic device which converts an image into electronic signals and would be mounted at end of lens assembly, ccd chip replacement will need to take apart camera and should be done by camera tech to avoid any damage.
Please look into inside front lens of camera and turn the power On, do you see aperture/iris control mechanism that would open like an eye deep inside lens mechanism?
If so then aperture/iris is working and ccd chip replacement in camera will help to resolve the problem and if you don't see any movement of aperture/iris then tap the camera with your palm gently that might help to release the stuck iris and if problem still persist then camera tech will take apart the camera lens mechanism to fix it.
I trust my input will help you out. Please feel free to respond if you have any additional questions.
