I have a Kodak Easyshare 5500. It stopped printing and copying. I have replaced the printer head as well as the black and colour cartridges. The printer recognizes that a new printer head has been inserted but when asked to print the calibration sheet this comes out blank. i.e. calibration is impossible. I have tried telling the machine to print from my computer and I have tried the photocopy facility. In both cases only a blank sheet of paper is produced. What else can I do? The printer has worked more or less perfectly since I bought it about 10 years ago.

When you connected the new print head, did you get the message to calibrate the print head on the LCD panel?

I tried re-inserting the old print head (with new cartridges) this only produced a blank calibration sheet again so I inserted the new print head (with new cartridges) and got the same result

Are you sure the new cartridge's orange tape is removed?

There were two plastic caps on the new print head, I removed both of them. Is there a tape as well? I checked to see if there is any additional tape and I cannot see any

both cartridges come with a plastic cap apiece, I did, of course, remove these before inserting

Do you have the old cartridges? And where did you order the print head from. Is it genuine Kodak print head?

I was asking about the orange cap present on the cartridges.

I do have the old cartridges. The print head is a Kodak printhead. It has the following number on it: CN-4K6513-EPZ04-CC3-4NG8-A00. The packet has the following also on it: Made in China TM: Kodak (c)Kodak, 2012 KP/N 4K6513. I bought it a few months' ago because I suspected my print head would fail sometime (printing was sometimes intermittent i.e. blanks left on the page) so I wanted to have a spare. The packet remained sealed until today.

Connect the old cartridges on the new print head and check if it prints anything

I did this when I first fitted the new print head. After a couple of 'deep cleans' I received the message to change the colour cartridge so I replaced both colour and black cartridges at the same, result still a blank page

Which operating system is there on your system?

If this were a system problem surely the 'copy' facility on the printer would still work? It doesn't. My system is Windows XP version 2002
What is 'firmware'? How does one upgrade this?

I have completed the download and achieved only partial success. I printed a text sheet with text in different colours, only the yellow letters printed.

Now print something else and let me know the result.

I tried printing an all black, text page, result: blank sheet. I also tried printing a mixed text/mixed colour sheet, result: again only the yellow letters printed
I have two other new cartridges, one black, one colour. Shall I put these in and see what happens (an expensive way of fault finding but if it works........) If the nozzle in the print head is clogged how do I clear this - indeed, where do I find it??

First try the new cartridges if it doesn't work then I will give you the procedure to clean the print head

I replaced both cartridges with new ones and the result is the same i.e. only the yellow is printing. Please send procedure for cleaning the print head

To clean the printhead from the control panel on the printer:

  1. Press the Menu button to display the Main Menu.
  2. Press the down arrow until Clean Printhead is displayed, then press OK.
    • For a basic clean, make sure Basic Clean is selected, then press OK.
    • For a deep clean, press the down arrow until Deep Clean is selected, then press OK.

To clean the printhead from the KODAK All-in-One Home Center Software on your computer (with software version 5.4 or later):

  1. Open the Home Center Software.
  2. From the Printer Tools, Help toolbar, select Maintenance.
  3. Click Printhead Cleaning, and wait for the printer to complete the cleaning.

I have carried out a deep clean of the print head and followed this by asking the printer to print a calibration sheet, this was blank apart, again, from just yellow blocks

Then this print head is faulty. Can you get it replaced from where you bought it?
