Car started to loose power on uphill gradient. when i accelerate hard the car has no power and when I slam the pedal to the floor the engine just revs up to 4500 -5000 RPM but wont actually increase in speed. The car will eventually increase speed not beyond about 40 mph...
JA: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?
Customer: Consistent, managed to get 2 mile to home!s
JA: What is the model/year of your Volvo?

JA: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Would like advice

Is this a manual or auto gearbox?

Any unusual noises from the engine or smoke , warning lights etc?

Auto gearbox, no unusual noises, smoke etc or warning lights

Does it feel likes its stuck in one gear or does it kick down when take you foot off the peal and reapply?

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
feels like its stuck, but isnt gradually picks up

Ok.. i think first off - you need to make sur thatnone of your brakes are stuck on and holding the car'd more or less know that if one or two of the wheels feel alot hotter than the might be worth ruling that out ,just to be sure... One other thing you could try is to get the gearbox that i mean, drain out the old oil for inspection and new oil added in..and then see how that performs then

OK, do you think EGR valve may be at fault?

Thanks Robert I'll pursue with Garage .....

Difficult to say without actually testing it first to prove if its faulty or not, or just stuck with carbon which can be cleaned out..but it maybe something to look into if all else above is ruled out..
